Awards for Valor and Exceptional Service:

Starfleet Cross The Starfleet Cross is the highest accolade which can be awarded by Starfleet Command. The Starfleet Cross is awarded to an individual who has distinguished themselves through acts of extraordinary heroism while engaged in an action against an enemy and in defense of the United Federation of Planets. The heroism and actions must have been notable and have involved extraordinary risk of life; where the failure of said actions would have resulted in serious ramifications against a Federation member world or the Federation itself. The Starfleet Cross is presented by the Commander in Chief of Starfleet, and is usually awarded posthumously.
Gold Star The highest award for valor in the Federation. This is a military award for multiple consecutive heroic actions at the risk of life above and beyond all expectation of duty. Most Gold Stars are awarded posthumously.
Silver Star

The second highest valor award is the Silver Star. Given for heroic actions at the risk of life beyond the requirements of duty, the omission of which actions would not normally result in criticism.

Bronze Star The next valor award is the Bronze Star. Which is awarded for a single act of heroism at risk to one's own life. This is the highest valor award that can be given in a non-combat incident
Guardian of Life This award is given in cases of multiple consecutive acts of valor, leadership and service equivalent to those required to earn the Gold Star but which did not take place in conditions of wartime combat.
Champion of Life These are non-combat awards requireing exposure to risk at least equal to combat and are often given for medical emergencies, natural disasters and catastrophic engineering failures. The individual must not simply remain calm and perform his duty, but must accomplish things that would not ordinarily be expected of those who were not at risk of their own life.
Lifesaving Medal This is awarded to anyone who saves a sentient life at the risk of his own life. It can be awarded in both combat and non-combat situations.
Distinguished Service Cross The highest award for service is given for major achievements over an extended period of time.
Distinguished Service Medal Given for specific acts (or extended periods) in which the individual is distinguished as having gone far beyond what would be expected of Star Fleet Personnel. It is difficult to achieve this award without participation in combat or at least being in a combat zone or otherwise exposed to danger in the normal course of one's duties.
Meritorious Service Medal

Given for singular acts of service or achievement which were performed with great merit.
President's Medal The highest decoration awarded by Starfleet Command and the United Federation of Planets, the President's Medal is awarded to Officers, Warrant Officer's and non-commissioned members of Starfleet for superior combat and non-combat services and devotion to duty whilst in service of the Federation.
Starfleet Achievement Medal Awarded to Starfleet personnel for outstanding achievement or meritorious service rendered specifically on behalf of the Federation. It may also be awarded for acts of heroism which do not meet the requirements for award of the Legion of Merit medal.
Starfleet Commendation Medal Awarded to members of Starfleet who, while serving in any capacity with the Federation, shall have distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement and service. The degree of merit must be distinctive, though it need not be unique. Acts of courage which do not involve the voluntary risk of life may be considered for the Commendation award.
